Class Descriptions
Creative Dramatics (Grades Pre-K
- 3)
The Creative Dramatics program serves young people pre-school through
third grade with an exposure and participation program in the performing
arts. The theatre arts become a natural extension of the child’s
gift of imagination and role-playing. Through theatre, children
sharpen their creativity, improve their self-confidence and learn
the importance of teamwork. Above all, children enjoy becoming a
part of the magic that they create on stage. Our program is designed
to offer children an introduction to many aspects of theatre arts
through creative games, story dramatization and improvisation. The
pre-school program requires that the children must be kindergarten
eligible in the fall of 2008.
Performing Arts Workshops (Grades
4 - 9)
Our Performance Arts program is for young people in grades four
through eight who have either experience on stage and have a strong
interest in improving their skills, or who simply have a desire
to participate in the performing arts. In Performance Arts I class
(grades 4 – 6) students will learn the basics of stage performance.
The young performer is introduced to “the basics” of
acting for the stage including warm-up techniques for both voice
and body, improvisation, theatre games, stage direction, and solo
and group scene work. In the Performance Arts II class (grades 7
– 9) young performers will continue to hone their stage skills
with in-depth scene study, character development and line memorization.
While more intense, this program still does offer the opportunity
for the first-time student.
Musical Performance Lab (Grades 4
- 9)
This lab is designed for students interested in musical performance.
Within the six-week process, students will focus on technique, including
breathing, warm-up, and vocal production as well as song interpretation,
movement and performance. Students will work on both solo and group
pieces. The lab will culminate in a “show and tell”
class where parents will be invited to attend, giving the students
the opportunity to perform before a live audience. This program
will be offered to students in grades 4 – 6 and grades 7 –
9.
