Free
Community Concert
STARS Musical Performance Lab
Tuesday February 26 at 7:00 pm
STARS will perform a free community concert on Tuesday February
26 at 7:00 pm in the fireplace lobby of the Shawnee Inn and Golf
Resort.
Students of the Musical Performance Lab II, a part of the Shawnee
Theatrical Arts Resource School (STARS) program at the Shawnee Playhouse
will present a concert of musical theater favorites they have been
working on since the start of the class on January 15th. Students
are in Grades 4-9 and include Tori DeBenedetto, Kristopher Sanchez,
Isabel Alyandro, Aubrey Haskell, Shane Stevens, Raquel Macias, Dana
Williams, Carson Summers Pelkey, and Melanie Meschach.
The class teaches these young actors to present their song as a
scene using a tried and true technique used by many actors who appear
on Broadway and Regional musical theater stages around the country.
Once learned, the technique can be applied to any song they need
to sing on stage or in concert.
Professional performers Christopher Joyce, their teacher, and Midge
McClosky, Executive Director of the Shawnee Playhouse, will sing
in the concert as well.
Community concerts are family friendly and appropriate for all
ages. All concerts are free and open to the public. Donations to
the performers are gratefully accepted.
About The Free Community Concert Series:
Several years ago, Charlie and Virginia Kirkwood (owners of the
Shawnee Inn and the Shawnee Institute) organized this series of
concerts as a way to give back to the community. Boasting a wide
variety of musical entertainment, the concerts have become quite
popular over the years for visitors and local residents alike.
Because the Poconos is such a musically talented community, it
is not hard to find performers. Volunteering their talents, these
artists perform a wide range of music, including jazz, big band,
country, polka, Broadway, oldies, folk, gospel, acoustic, patriotic,
and more. These shows are fun for audiences of all ages. Each concert
is free of charge and donations to the performers are accepted in
order to show appreciation for their time and talents.
The concert series was made possible by the partnership of the
Shawnee Institute Ltd and The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort. For more
